Growers who accept their social responsibility
Sustainability underpins everything we do at Hofland Flowering Plants. Not only do we take 'Be green' very seriously, we put it into practice throughout our entire business operations. Examples include long-term employment contracts and relationships with suppliers, geothermal heat, and biological plant protection. We’re happy to share just how sustainable our growing methods are.
Sustainable cultivation
For this reason, we consciously decided to grow spring crops that develop naturally; fewer chemical or biological inhibitors, and even without natural gas. Natural biological solutions always underpin the protection and care of our crops. We also use our irrigation water sparingly. For example, we use an innovative irrigation robot, which allows us to give exactly the right amount of water and minimise waste. Any water left over is collected and reused. We’re proud of this closed-loop water system. The energy used to heat Hofland Flowering Plants’ greenhouses comes from the ground; we’ve been connected to the Trias Westland geothermal power station since 2017. The Trias Westland installation provides our heating system with hot water, and keeps our greenhouses at least partially heated. The cooled water is returned to the Trias Westland installation, which sends it back deep underground to be reheated. A great way of taking and giving.
Eco-friendly pots
Sustainability extends to our growing pots. These PP pots are made entirely from waste, and are themselves recyclable. We also supply packaging consisting of a paper sleeve under our Feel Green line.
Kuma
Our supplier of cultivation pots, KUMA, has been a leader in reusing plastic pots for more than 50 years. The company makes amazing products from other people's plastic waste. Reusing raw materials is good for both us and the world around us, so KUMA has been our loyal supplier for many years.
